Conclusion
Here only comparing the maximum
aperture performance and comparing the single 100-400 zoom with the f5.6 prime.
According to the MTF charts the zoom has better centre performance and worse
edge performance. In practice it is likely the zoom will suffer more from
production tolerances and so it seems unlikely that it would be any better that
the prime in real life.
