Photodo Alternatives to Canon
Many people on the web complain about the performance of Canon wide angle lenses.
Using the Photodo measurements it is possible to compare Canon with other manufactures such as Contax, Nikkor and Leica R lenses.
Clearly this is a fairly limited sample as Photodo do not have 100% coverage.
Please see the below links for the details of the comparison.
The surprising result was that some Nikkor lenses are better than Canon although the difference is not enormous, significant but not enormous.
Another surprise was that the Contax and Leica products were not enormously better, or in some cases particularly good.
The weakest focal length for Canon was 28mm and the strongest 35mm.
At 24mm and 20mm Nikkor was slightly better but the improvement over Canon was not massive. There were no data for Contax and Leica in the 20mm region.
